Half-Birthday

Alexis is 6 months old today! The time certainly has flown by. In the morning, we took Alexis up Castle Hill for the first time. Well, technically, it was the second time, but she was only a week old the first time and I couldn't even get out of the car at the time, so we don't really count it. John and I took turns pushing the stroller for 5 minute segments and we made it all the way to the top in 33.5 minutes. I thought that was pretty good, since I used to take about 30 minutes to get to the top with no stroller.

We also gave Alexis solid food for the first time; just some plain rice cereal. She took to it pretty well.

Here is the video of her first few bites.

At six months old, Alexis loves to eat her feet, play in her play-gym, read books with Daddy, sit and play in her 'dumbo' chair, take baths, go for walks, take horsey rides on Daddy's knee, sing songs, go swimming, play airplane, and talk on Skype with her family. She also loves to look at herself in the mirror!

Alexis is very smiley and vocal. She has the highest pitch squeal that we have ever heard! And the cutest giggle too. She is a good cuddler and loves to sleep with Mommy and Daddy. She grabs at everything and will put anything she gets her hands on in her mouth. She is good at rolling over (though she doesn't do it very often) and sitting up. She can stand with very little help. She is a great traveler. At six months, she has already been to two different continents, two countries, two Australian states and four U.S. states! Tummy time still isn't her favourite thing, but she does lay on her stomach a lot more than she used to. Alexis doesn't have any teeth yet, but she is certainly drooling enough and chewing on enough things to signal that she might have some soon.

We feel very blessed to have Alexis in our lives and a part of our family. She is such a good baby. She is happy so much of the time and will always give you the biggest smiles. We love her so much!

Mohawk

Featuring the hair stylings of Daddy:
You can see similar stylings in "Hair" posted on 24 January 2010.  It's amazing to see how much her hair has grown in three months.

"Look Mom . . . no hands!"
Alexis standing up all by herself.  Well, technically, she was leaning back a little bit on the chair, but we weren't helping her at all!

Look at that beautiful smile.

Fun in the Sun

We had a church activity today at The Riverway.  It's a park right on the river and there is a big public swimming pool (since very few people actually swim in the river because of the crocodiles). Of course, we had to take Alexis swimming, since she seemed to like it so much last time. And it was 31 C/88 F today, so were pretty hot.
This is one of Alexis' favourite faces to make. It reminds us of what people look like when they take their dentures out. Also, she was humming.

It felt so good to cool off in the pool. We were able to stay in the water for about 15 minutes. I thought that was pretty good for such a small baby.

I don't think this needs any further explanation.

Request

At the request of one of her grandmas, who didn't appreciate hearing about green poo, here is our beautiful Alexis.

Green poo

Last week, John and I had our first experience with green poo. Alexis had a stomach bug that turned her poop avocado green. John double-dared me to post a picture of her dirty diapers on the blog, but I thought I would spare our dear readers. She did happen to get some green poo on one of her socks though, so I thought I would post that picture instead. The photo is not that clear, but you can see how bright green it was. We're happy to report that her poo is starting to turn back to the yellow/brown mustard colour we all know and love.
