For the Team

A few days ago I was just about to leave the house when I hear John scream upstairs. I knew that he was changing Alexis' diaper and I thought she probably peed all over the change table as this happens to him quite a lot. (I keep telling him that he needs to put the new diaper under her bottom sooner.) I yelled up the stairs to see if he needed any help. I got no response, so I started to walk upstairs when he calls down "it's ok, I took one for the team." Then he shows me his hand which is full of Alexis' poop. I know, hilarious, right? I have a picture, but I thought that it was a little too gross for the blog. He said that she started pooping, with no diaper under her, and he panicked (that's when he screamed - and yes it was a girly scream). His first reaction was to put his hand under her bottom. I got a good laugh out of it, but informed him that it was ok if she pooped on the change table; we could just wash the cover. The funny thing was that while he was washing his hands, Alexis pooped some more. Did I put my hand under her? No. I let her poop on the table.

Church #30

Look at those teeth!

She's still got those chubby legs!

On a side note . . .

Alexis turned 8 months old yesterday. Boy, does time fly! There are a few things that happened over the last month that I don't want to forget:
  • Alexis doesn't crawl yet, but she scoots backwards really well. She just scoots backwards until she hits a wall, the bed, etc and can't go anymore or she scoots backwards in a circle to change directions. It's quite cute and funny.
  • At around 7 1/2 months Alexis started to babble, a lot. Her first syllable was "da," followed soon after by "ba" and "ma." She has two volumes - loud, and louder. Instead of babbling "ma, ma, ma, ma" she can now say "ma-ma." John is convinced that she knows what it means. When Alexis is with John and she wants me, she keeps saying/crying "ma-ma" to him until I take her and then she stops. I'm not totally convinced. But regardless, we do have a very clever daughter.
  • Last week at swimming lessons, Alexis went all the way under water for the first time. It's too bad John wasn't there, because she was a natural. She never sputtered and came up smiling. They teach us to say "1, 2, 3, under" and then put them under the water. Even on her first go, Alexis closed her eyes and seemed to hold her breath. She loved it so much that even when I wasn't going to put her under and was just bouncing her in the water, she kept closing her eyes like she was ready. When I took her out of the water she started crying. That night, John kept telling her how proud he was of her. He's already talking about buying her her first mask and snorkel.

Bedhead

This is what Alexis' hair looked like when she woke up this morning:

This also happens to be the first picture that we have where you can actually see her bottom teeth. You have to look hard, but there's a little gleam of white by her bottom lip.

Loved

Last week I had to have a suspicious mole removed from my arm (it ended up being benign). And even though it was a small out-patient procedure that only took 30 minutes, this is what was waiting for me when I got home:

I felt so loved.

Alexis had swimming lessons later that day, but because I couldn't get my arm wet for 48 hours, she got to go with Daddy! I'm not sure who had more fun, Alexis or John. This picture shows John trying to get Alexis to "jump" in by herself.

Congratulations to Kelsey on her graduation from Standford!
Wish we could have been there.

Dental Hygiene

Since Alexis has teeth now, I thought I better get her a toothbrush. I've already been putting 'tooth mousse' on her teeth (helps build up and protect the enamel). She doesn't like me putting my fingers in her mouth, but she loves the taste of the mousse (strawberry), so I wasn't sure how she would go with a toothbrush. I got her one that is kind of rubbery and specifically for teething/first teeth. She loves it! Of course, she doesn't let me use it on her teeth, but that's o.k., because she's quite good with it herself. If you look closely at the pictures, you can see how soaked her shirt is from all of her drool!
