Donut Falls

We went for a hike this past weekend to Donut Falls in Big Cottonwood Canyon. It was crazy busy! John made the comment that he likes to go hiking to get away from people and we felt like we could have been at Disneyland. There was a never-ending, constant stream of people on the trail. (It was really hard to get a picture without anyone else in it.)  Nevertheless, we had fun. Alexis loved it. She spent some time in the backpack and some time walking by herself. And she loved throwing rocks in the river when we stopped at the bottom of the falls.  We didn't climb all the way to the top of the falls (to see the "donut"), because I'm a bit afraid of heights and water and with the two combined, I just couldn't get myself to do.  But really, we were there for Alexis, and she didn't know the difference.

After the hike, we drove just a few minutes farther up the canyon to the cabin.  It was nice to have someplace to take a shower and a comfy nap.  John and Alexis went up to explore Silver Lake (which John told me was also packed), while I made dinner.  We would have loved to have spent the night at the cabin, but it wouldn't have left us enough time to get to church the next morning, so we headed home after dinner.  As much fun as we had, I don't think we will be planning any future Saturday hiking activities; we will take advantage of John's flexible schedule and try to go during the week.
